Frida and Rafael's birthday party

Snell's Beach, NEW ZEALAND

You couldn't have asked for a better day at this joint sibling birthday party out in Snell's Beach. Frida was turning four, Rafa turning two, and all their friends and family were there to celebrate the occasion.

Each child got their very own cake. For Frida, a toddler's absolute dream of jelly beans piled on top of a vanilla cake. For Rafa, an indulgent chocolate cake that was sneakily healthy - chocolate avocado icing for the win! "Happy Birthday" was sung both in English and Lithuanian, as the children speak both languages.

Out back was a jungle themed bouncy castle that wasn't empty once the entire afternoon. Inside there were a plethora of toys and a make-you-own kite station - where each child was able to colour on their very own kite to fly down the wide open field next to their house.

In the kitchen their father (an avid cook), was busy making the guests coffees and making the biggest vat of pasta I had ever seen. Along with the most delicious and aesthetically pleasing platters scattered perfectly about. The love and connection that this family had to their community was seen so clearly.

As the party started to come to a close, families sat down together and enjoyed their bowls of Spaghetti Bolognese. Frida and and Rafa opened their presents. And the remaining children ran up and down the hill trying to get their kites to fly. Overall it was such a lovely afternoon, and I'm so glad I was able to be a part of it.
